Arizona ranks 48th in legislative arts appropriations.
Arizona art organizations, which enhance quality of life for residents and bolster the vitality of Arizona's creative economy, are primarily supported by legislative appropriations. Yet today, Arizona has dropped to 48th in the nation when it comes to arts appropriations per capita. That figure is down from the ranking of 25th as recently as 2002. Record budget deficits have been the cause of many cuts and have significantly impacted the arts in Arizona.
