Immigration

Description: Immigration (the movement of people from other countries to the United States) is a source of population growth in Arizona. Estimates of immigration have been produced annually since 2001 as part of the annual estimates of the population produced by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Immigration data are presented on the Economic and Demographic Indicators dashboard since 2001 for the United States, Arizona, and the 15 Arizona counties. State and national data are reported in December. County data are released in March.

Data Source: U.S. Department of Commerce, Census Bureau http://www.census.gov/popest/counties.

Comments on the Quality of the Data: Immigration is estimated. While counts of legal immigration are available, entry to the United States frequently occurs prior to the year in which the immigrant is included in the statistics. Estimates of the number of undocumented immigrants are crude.
