Domestic Net Migration
Description: Net migration (the difference between the number of in-migrants and the number of out-migrants) from within the United States is a primary source of population growth in Arizona. Estimates of net domestic migration have been produced annually since 2001 as part of the annual estimates of the population produced by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Domestic net migration data are presented on the Economic and Demographic Indicators dashboard since 2001 for the United States, Arizona, and the 15 Arizona counties. State and national data are reported in December. County data are released in March.
Data Source: U.S. Department of Commerce, Census Bureau http://www.census.gov/popest/counties.
Comments on the Quality of the Data: Domestic net migration is estimated, based in part on data provided by the Internal Revenue Service. Estimates may be revised substantially after the decennial census count is available.
