Banking Deposits

Description: Three measures — number of institutions, number of offices, and deposits — are reported by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for each of three categories of financial institutions: commercial banks, savings institutions, and federal banks.

Annual data on total deposits are presented on the Economic and Demographic dashboard since 1994 for Arizona and the 15 Arizona counties. The figures are adjusted for inflation using the GDP implicit price deflator.

Data Sources: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation http://www4.fdic.gov/SOD (click on ‘summary tables’). The GDP implicit price deflator is available from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis http://www.bea.gov/national/nipaweb/SelectTable.asp?Selected=Y (Table 1.1.9).

Comments on the Quality of the Data: Deposits are limited to those at FDIC-insured institutions.
