Housing Units Authorized
Description: Building permit data are collected by cities and counties across Arizona. All building permits are classified into one of four categories — residential, commercial, industrial, and other — with the dollar value reported in each category. For those permits issued for new housing units, the number of units authorized is reported by category: single family, mobile home, and multifamily. Data are reported monthly, available approximately one month after the end of a month.
Annual data are presented on Arizona Indicators for the total number of housing units permitted since 1986 in Arizona and the 15 Arizona counties. Earlier data are available from the source.
Data Source: Arizona State University, Polytechnic Campus, Realty Studies. Recent data are available from http://www.poly.asu.edu/realty/market_update.html. Older data were extracted from hard-copy reports.
Comments on the Quality of the Data: The data are subject to late reporting, nonreporting, and misreporting. Considerable caution should be exercised when using these data, especially for the less-populous counties.
