Children
Arizona is a young state, literally. More than a quarter of our population is under the age of 18. Data addressing the health as well as physical and emotional safety of Arizona’s children helps service providers, social systems, and parents and families better understand this population and make informed policy choices that impact their future.
Included in the children’s tab of well-being indicators is a wealth of information on children’s health, including information on immunizations and the availability of health care providers; safety and security, including data on children involved in the child welfare system and children experiencing homelessness and poverty; and information on early care and education, including the prevalence of full-day kindergarten and teacher salaries.
The data shows that Arizona’s children face a number of challenges, but also have a lot of things going in their favor. Arizona’s future competitiveness depends on how well children are prepared to succeed in a world of competition and innovation. Arizona children need to be safe, healthy, and educated to venture out as successful young adults.
