Arizona Health Survey
In 2008, St. Luke’s Health Initiatives conducted the first statewide health status survey. Such an extensive collection of health information from Arizona residents had never been done before. The random sample telephone survey, which included scores of questions, reached 4,200 Arizona households. A supplemental study of children and adolescents was also included in Maricopa County. The telephone survey was administered in English and Spanish. The Arizona Health Survey produced a truly significant state and local dataset that provides new insights into individuals’ health status, insurance coverage, access to healthcare, health-related behaviors, and various demographic and social/environmental factors related to health. Survey results and analysis are intended to inform public policy and improve health planning at the local, regional, and state levels.
Due to the tremendous amount of data available and the extensive access provided by St. Luke’s Health Initiatives, this is just a small sampling of the basic questions. This material is intended to increase awareness of the survey and its possible uses by researchers, policy makers, advocates, practitioners, and the public.
