Innovation

Innovation Indicators is a cooperative venture involving Governor Janet Napolitano's Council on Innovation and Technology (GCIT), the Commerce and Economic Development Commission (CEDC), the Arizona Department of Commerce, the L. William Seidman Research Institute and the W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University.

Innovation Indicators is intended to become a one-stop resource of current research data that demonstrates Arizona's progress on the topic of innovation. The site will be continuously updated as new data become available. Other Arizona indicators can be found at http://www.arizonaindicators.org or by choosing one of the links on the home page.

This is an early version of the innovation indicators website: changes and enhancements to this site are ongoing. Feedback is encouraged: please send comments to indicators@asu.edu.

The indicators in this website are divided into two categories:

  • Inputs to Innovation (7 subcategories, with a variable number of indicators)
  • Outputs of Innovation (5 subcategories, with a variable number of indicators)

Rationale for Innovation Indicators: In modern economies, innovation and new technologies lead to economic gains in the communities in which they are adopted. A good economic foundation nurtures innovation, and innovation is necessary if an area wishes to be an economic leader. Once an area decides it wants to be a leader, the challenge is to develop a business and socioeconomic environment that promotes innovation. The innovation indicators contained in this dashboard assist individuals and policy makers to assess the local innovation environment and to make policy decisions that would allow Arizona to better compete in this environment.
