Fastest-Growing Companies

Description: Inc. Magazine has published an annual list of the 500 fastest-growing companies for many years (the list has been expanded to the fastest 5,000). The latest list published in 2007 is based on the percent change in revenue between 2003 and 2006. To be included on the 2007 list, companies must be based in the United States, privately held and independent (not a subsidiary or a division of a larger firm) as of the end of 2006, have had a full year of revenue during 2003, and have had revenue of at least $200,000 in 2003 and at least $2 million in 2006.

The dashboard provides a graph of the number of Arizona companies making the Fast 500 list and the list of Arizona companies among the top 500 in each year since 1996. The table for the latest year includes additional company information. The employment figure includes full-time and part-time employees, but not contractors.

Rationale: Innovative economies should be dynamic economies that produce fast-growing companies.

Comments on the Quality of the Data: Since firms must apply for inclusion, the list may be incomplete. All data are self reported. Given that the list is based on percentage change in revenues, companies that were small four years earlier are much more likely to be among the Fastest-Growing Companies.
