College Readiness
The College Readiness report provides school-level results on the percentage of high school graduates from Maricopa County district and charter high schools that are college ready upon entering either the Maricopa County Community College system or one of Arizona’s three public universities the year following high school. The report includes the postsecondary outcomes of high school graduates from the classes of 2005 through 2009.
College level courses include all classes categorized by the postsecondary institutions as:
– English – Freshman English or above (courses designated as Pre-Freshman English and Other Lower Division English were not designated as college-level)
– Mathematics – College Algebra or above (courses designated as Pre-Intermediate Algebra, Intermediate Algebra and those designated as Other Lower Division Mathematics were not designated as college-level).
The overall college entrance rate for a respective high school can be calculated by adding the In-State and Out-of-State enrollment rates.
Definition of Categories in College Readiness Results:
1. High School – High school name
2. District or Charter Holder – District or charter holder name
3. Enrollment (Students) – Number of graduates from the respective high school class enrolled in either an Arizona public university or a Maricopa County Community College in the academic year following graduation
4. Enrollment (Rate) – Percentage of graduates that enroll in either an Arizona public university or the Maricopa Community College system
5. Readiness Rate (English) – Percentage of college students enrolled in college-level English course
6. Readiness Rate (Math) – Percentage of college students enrolled in college-level Mathematics course
7. Postsecondary Enrollment Out-of-State (Students) – the number of students from the respective high school class enrolled in a postsecondary institution outside of Arizona
8. Postsecondary Enrollment Out-of-State (Rate) – Percentage of the respective high school class enrolled in a postsecondary institution outside of Arizone
9. School Type (Charter) – Charter school indicator
10. School Type (Alternative) – Alternative school designation as defined and approved by the Arizona Department of Education
