Private Foundations
Private foundations are an important part of Arizona's philanthropic landscape. Private foundations typically make grants and contributions to other organizations for charitable puposes. Some private foundations qualify as private operating foundations and directly fund their own educational, charitable, and/or religious programs. There are 1,401 total private foundations in Arizona with assets totaling 5.4 billion. Private foundations awarded $288 million in charitable contributions in 2011.
